Description
The Cabinet Gorge Dam sits in the Cabinet Gorge of the Clark Fork river on the Idaho, Montana border in the area where an ice dam over 2000 feet high held back Lake Missoula about 12,000 years ago. Evidence suggests this dam formed and broke numerous times during the last Ice Age resulting in major changes to Central Washington and the Columbia Gorge. Man's accomplishment here is significant but puny compared to that of Mother Nature and the last Ice Age. An Osprey nest is located atop one of the motors used to raise and lower the rightmost gate.
